Round basket boats ferry the night’s catch from the moored boats to the sand, where it is sorted and sold before the heat arrives. Your guide walks you down among the baskets, explains what is being landed and who buys it, and finds you a plate of banh can, small rice-flour cakes cooked in clay moulds, from a stall by the beach.

The big dunes: pale sand rolling for kilometres between freshwater lakes, the nearest thing Vietnam has to a desert. A 4×4 jeep takes you to the high ridge while the sand is still cool, and your guide explains how the wind keeps reshaping it. An ATV ride is optional; if you want one, your guide books a reputable operator and you pay on the spot.

The small dunes on the road into Mui Ne, coloured deep orange by iron in the sand. Walk up in soft sand and slide down on a sandboard. There are no drones here: the area is close to a military zone.
Fairy Stream

A shallow stream running between banks of red sand and white clay, worn into small canyons and spires. You walk it barefoot, ankle-deep, and your shoes wait in the jeep. As the day warms up, it is the coolest place on the route.

Questions before you book
About the day
How long is the tour and when does it start?
It runs About 5 hours door to door, with pickup at 07:00 or 14:00, 30 minutes earlier from Phan Thiet. The morning run reaches the white dunes before the sand heats up; the afternoon run ends there at sunset. The tour is private, so the pickup time can move to suit you.
Where do you pick us up?
At your own hotel, anywhere in Mui Ne, Ham Tien or Phan Thiet, with no meeting point to reach on your own. Hotels in Tien Thanh and NovaWorld Phan Thiet carry a small transfer surcharge, shown at checkout; for Ke Ga or further out, message us for a quote. Your guide waits in the lobby for 20 minutes.
How much walking is there?
About 50 minutes barefoot in shallow water at Fairy Stream, a short climb in soft sand at the red dunes and a gentle walk at the fishing village. At the white dunes the jeep takes you to the top.
Can we change the route or the pace?
Yes. This is a sample day and every part of it can be adjusted: add a stop, skip one, or spend longer at the white dunes. Tell us before you book and we confirm the plan and an all-inclusive price in writing.
Does the guide speak good English?
Yes. Your guide is a licensed local who speaks fluent English and explains the customs and the story of each stop, from the fishing boats to the way the dunes move, as you go.
Booking and practicalities
Is the price per person or for the whole group?
For the whole group, from one to four guests: four people pay less each than two, and the car is the same car. Children under 5 travel free and do not count towards the group size; from 5 a child counts as one guest. Groups of five or more travel in a larger vehicle — message us for a quote.
How do I pay, and when?
Two ways: pay the full price online by card, or pay a 30% deposit online and the rest in cash on the day of the tour, in US dollars or Vietnamese dong. We can also send a secure payment link on WhatsApp. The booking is confirmed once the online payment goes through, and your pickup time and guide’s name arrive in writing.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Yes — free cancellation up to 3 days before departure for a full refund, and free rescheduling subject to availability. Within 3 days of departure, 30% of the tour price is charged because the car and guide are already committed.
What should I bring, and do I need cash?
Sunglasses, a hat, sun cream and sandals you can slip off at Fairy Stream; a light scarf helps if the wind is up at the white dunes. You do not need cash at any gate, since every ticket is bought for you; bring cash for an ATV ride or shopping, or if you chose to pay the balance in cash to your guide.
What if it rains or the wind is strong?
Mui Ne is one of the driest corners of Vietnam. From May to October a short afternoon shower is possible; the dunes stay open in light rain, and if heavy rain is forecast we move the dune stops to the driest hours or change the date free of charge.
